As retail locations, schools, salons, and healthcare facilities have adopted more stringent cleaning guidelines to keep the public safe, they have also looked for ways to sanitize the air.
i2M worked with MANN+HUMMEL to launch our TRI-KLEEN 500UV in the spring of 2020. We have seen the success of our product in schools and hospitals across the country. Our team has closely followed the guidelines of the CDC and ASHRAE since the beginning of the pandemic.

ASHRAE recently released guidelines for in-room air cleaners for reducing COVID-19 in the air. In these guidelines they explain the HEPA, UV-C and UV-PCO technologies. 

  • HEPA (High efficiency particulate air) filters remove particles, which include particles that contain microorganisms and viruses.
  • U-VC Germicidal air cleaners kill viruses and microorganisms in the air, but do not remove them. 
  • UV-PCO ionizers utilize the process of photocatalytic oxidation (PCO), which combines UV light with titanium dioxide (TiO2), producing hydroxyl radicals. However, this process can create harmful compounds.

The TRI-KLEEN 500UV combines the particle-removing benefits of the HEPA in-room cleaners with UV-C Germicidal air cleaners to kill viruses and microorganisms, and the added protection of a MERV 8 prefilter. When selecting the right portable air cleaner, it is important to consider the HEPA filtration area. Not all HEPA filters are the same, some have a higher filtration area than others. The higher the filtration area, the longer the filter life. Our cylindrical HEPA filter has a filtration area of 75.4 ft2, so it would not need to be changed as often as a HEPA filter with a filtration are 50 ft2, for example. Paying attention to these details can help you save on replacement filter costs.

Our TRI-KLEEN 500UV is one of the quietest air filtration devices on the market. At 34-46 dBA, it is similar to the sound of the average computer. This means that it will be a welcome addition to an environment as it will not distract occupants. It would be unfortunate to install portable air filtration that gets turned off because it is too loud for the environment.
